Frugal and Green Thursday, July 9, 2009 Little Sebago Lake Association is not only frugal but green! In this difficult economy we are looking for any way we can find to cut expenses. Our sixteen buoys on the lake marking hazards and no wake zones are in need of replacement. They are quite expensive to purchase so we looked at ways to improvise. One of our board members, John Redlon, came up with a design which recycles fiberglass water treatment pressure vessels donated by Dunbar Water Company. These vessels are made to withstand an internal water pressure of 175 pounds per square inch so they are plenty tough enough to withstand our normal buoy treatment. When painted, filled with the proper amount of sand, labeled and outfitted with stainless steel hardware these are an excellent alternative. Testing is ongoing and we hope to prove the design and deploy them over the course of the summer. |
