Post Loon Chicks - at last! Reply with quote
Very Happy Finally saw Loon Chicks this weekend. Our resident Loon didn't find a mate this year but now that nesting is well past we've had a family of 4 visiting our shore line. The chicks were still quite small for this late in the summer so I think this pair may have had to lay a second or third time before their eggs survived to hatch. Has anybody else got chicks in their areas?

no chicks but a group of four adults hang around quite a bit right in front of us here in the middle lake. I hope the chicks survive! Keep us posted .

I thought I saw a young adult/mature chick with an adult loon over by our place last week but did not have my glasses so I cant verify that.

Saw a mother and chick last Sunday, 8/24/08, on the Tarkill Pond side of Sabbady Point on the lower lake. Never get close enough to get a good picture but they are the spots in the middle of the picture! I've seen them in this spot a couple of times in the last few weeks.

Heard some unfamiliar loon cry's this morning in the cove opposite Tarkill Pond. A neighbor also noted the uncharacteristic sound. Haven't seen anything and it's stopped for now. For the past week or two there has been a lot of loon activity and cry's (normal sounding) in this area. I guess we just let nature take it course.
